The effects of the final-state interaction in slow-proton production in semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering processes off nuclei, A(e,e{sup '}p)X, are investigated in detail using the spectator and target-fragmentation mechanisms. Beam-helicity asymmetries for single-hadron production in semi-inclusive deep-inelastic scattering from unpolarized hydrogen and deuterium targets

A measurement of beam-helicity asymmetries for single-hadron production in deep-inelastic scattering is presented. Data from the scattering of 27.6 GeV electrons and positrons off gaseous hydrogen and deuterium targets were collected by the HERMES experiment. The asymmetries are presented separately as a function of the Bjorken scaling variable, the hadron transverse momentum and the fractional energy for charged pions and kaons as well as for protons and anti-protons. These asymmetries are also presented as a function of the three aforementioned kinematic variables simultaneously

Time reversal odd fragmentation functions in semi-inclusive deep inelastic lepton-hadron scattering

In semi-inclusive scattering of polarized leptons from unpolarized hadrons, one can measure a time reversal odd structure function. It shows up as a sin({phi}) asymmetry of the produced hadrons. This asymmetry can be expressed as the product of a twist-three {open_quotes}hadron {r_arrow} quark{close_quotes} profile function and a time reversal odd twist-two {open_quotes}quark {r_arrow} hadron{close_quotes} fragmentation function. This fragmentation function can only be measured for nonzero transverse momenta of the produced hadron. Its appearance is a consequence of final state interactions between the produced hadron and the rest of the final state.

Semi-inclusive deep-inelastic scattering off few-nucleon systems: Tagging the EMC effect and hadronization mechanisms with detection of slow recoiling nuclei

The semi-inclusive deep-inelastic scattering of electrons off {sup 2}H and {sup 3}He with detection of slow protons and deuterons, respectively, i.e., the processes {sup 2}H(e,e{sup '}p)X and {sup 3}He(e,e{sup '}d)X, are calculated within the spectator mechanism, taking into account the final state interaction of the nucleon debris with the detected protons and deuterons. It is shown that by a proper choice of the kinematics the origin of the EMC effect and the details of the interaction between the hadronizing quark and the nuclear medium can be investigated at a level which cannot be reached by inclusive deep-inelastic scattering. Dynamics Of Hadronization From Nuclear Semi Inclusive Deep Inelastic Scattering

The CLAS experiment E02-104, part of the EG2 run at Jefferson Lab, was performed to study the hadronization process using semi inclusive deep inelastic scattering off nuclei. Electron beam energy of 5 GeV and the CLAS large acceptance detector were used to study charged pion production. The high luminosity available at Jefferson Lab and the CLAS large acceptance are key factors for such measurements allowing high statistics and therefore multidimensional analyses of the data. Both the multiplicity ratio and the transverse momentum broadening for carbon, iron and lead relative to deuterium are measured. Preliminary results for positive pions are discussed.
