Inelastic neutron scattering was used to measure phonon dispersions in a single crystal of FeGe₂ with the C16 structure at 300, 500, and 635 K. Phonon densities of states (DOS) were also measured on polycrystalline FeGe₂ from 325 to 1050 K, and the Fe partial DOS was obtained from polycrystalline ⁵⁷FeGe₂ at 300 K using nuclear resonant inelastic x-ray scattering. The dominant feature in the temperature dependence of the phonon spectrum is thermal broadening of high-energy modes. High-pressure effects on isotropic superconductivity in the iron-free layered pnictide superconductor ${BaPd}_{2} {As}_{2}$

While the layered 122 iron arsenide superconductors are highly anisotropic, unconventional, and exhibit several forms of electronic orders that coexist or compete with superconductivity in different regions of their phase diagrams, we find in the absence of iron in the structure that the superconducting characteristics of the end member BaPd₂As₂ are surprisingly conventional. Here we report on complementary measurements of specific heat, magnetic susceptibility, resistivity measurements, Andreev spectroscopy, and synchrotron high pressure x-ray diffraction measurements supplemented with theoretical calculations for BaPd₂As₂. Sb₂O₃-based materials are of broad interest in materials science and industry. High-pressure study using diamond anvil cells shows promise in obtaining new crystal and electronic structures different from their pristine states. Here, we conducted in situ angle dispersive synchrotron x-ray-diffraction and Raman spectroscopy experiments on α-Sb₂O₃ up to 50 GPa with neon as the pressure transmitting medium. A first-order structural transition was observed in between 15 and 20 GPa, where the cubic phase I gradually transformed into a layered tetragonal phase II through structural distortion and symmetry breaking.
