Here, we attempt to describe the interplay of confinement and chiral symmetry breaking in QCD by using the string model. We argue that in the quasi-Abelian picture of confinement based on the condensation of magnetic monopoles and the dual Meissner effect, the world sheet dynamics of the confining string can be effectively described by the 1+1 dimensional massless electrodynamics, which is exactly soluble. The transverse plane distribution of the chromoelectric field stretched between the quark and antiquark sources can then be attributed to the fluctuations in the position of the string. Chiral symmetry breaking and confinement from an interacting ensemble of instanton dyons in two-flavor massless QCD

In this work we present the results from numerical simulations of an interacting ensemble of instanton dyons in the SU(3) gauge group with N_f = 2 flavors of massless quarks. Dynamical quarks are included via the effective interactions induced by the fermionic determinant evaluated in the subspace of topological zero modes. The eigenvalue spectrum of the Dirac operator is studied at different volumes to extract the chiral condensate and eigenvalue gap, with both observables providing consistent values of the chiral transition temperature T_c. Chiral Magnetic Josephson Junction as a Base for Low-Noise Superconducting Qubits

The lack of space inversion symmetry endows non-centrosymmetric superconducting materials with various interesting parity-breaking phenomena, including the anomalous Josephson effect. Our paper considers a Josephson junction of two non-centrosymmetric superconductors connected by a uniaxial ferromagnet. We show that this “Chiral Magnetic Josephson junction” (CMJ junction) exhibits a direct analog of the Chiral Magnetic Effect, which has already been observed in Weyl and Dirac semimetals. We suggest that the CMJ can serve as an element of a qubit with a Hamiltonian tunable by the ferromagnet’s magnetization. Strain-induced chiral magnetic effect in Weyl semimetals

Here, we argue that strain applied to a time-reversal and inversion breaking Weyl semimetal in a magnetic field can induce an electric current via the chiral magnetic effect. A tight-binding model is used to show that strain generically changes the locations in the Brillouin zone but also the energies of the band touching points (tips of the Weyl cones). Since axial charge in a Weyl semimetal can relax via intervalley scattering processes, the induced current will decay with a time scale given by the lifetime of a chiral quasiparticle. Real-time chiral dynamics from a digital quantum simulation

The chiral magnetic effect in a strong magnetic field can be described using the chiral anomaly in the (1+1)-dimensional massive Schwinger model with a time-dependent θ term. We perform a digital quantum simulation of the model at finite θ angle and vanishing gauge coupling using an IBM-Q digital quantum simulator, and observe the corresponding vector current induced in a system of relativistic fermions by a global chiral quench—a sudden change in the chiral chemical potential or θ angle. At finite fermion mass, there appears an additional contribution to this current that stems from the nonanomalous relaxation of chirality. Our resultsmore »« less
