A quasi-two-dimensional Peierls-Hubbard model with anharmonic phonons has been studied, so as to clarify the competition between the metallic state and the charge- or spin-density-wave (CDW or SDW) states, as well as the isotope effect on the superconducting (SC) transition temperature {ital T}{sub {ital c}} of this system. The anharmonicity is assumed to be a local quartic one, like a hard-core repulsion. This theory is based on the mean-field approximation for electrons and a variational method for phonons. Crossover from itinerant to localized magnetic excitations through the metal-insulator transition in ${NaOsO}_{3}$

NaOsO₃ undergoes a metal-insulator transition (MIT) at 410 K, concomitant with the onset of antiferromagnetic order. The excitation spectra have been investigated through the MIT by resonant inelastic x-ray scattering (RIXS) at the Os L₃ edge. Low resolution (ΔE ~ 300 meV) measurements over a wide range of energies reveal that local electronic excitations do not change appreciably through the MIT. This is consistent with a picture in which structural distortions do not drive the MIT. Magnetic scattering and spin-orbit coupling induced magnetoresistance in nonmagnetic heavy metal and magnetic insulator bilayer systems

Here, we report on the experimental study of the angular dependent magnetoresistance (MR) of heavy metal/ferromagnetic insulator bilayer structures. Through altering the relative composition in heavy metal Pt_δTa_1–δ alloy, we continuously tune its spin Hall angle from positive, crossing zero, and to negative and study its impact on the MR. Most notably, both spin Hall effect and MR disappear simultaneously in Pt_0.32Ta_0.68 (3 nm)/YIG when the effective spin Hall angle vanishes, evidencing the essential role of spin-orbit coupling in heavy metal for the MR. Low-temperature variation of magnetic order in a nonmagnetic n-Ge:As semiconductor in the vicinity of the metal-insulator phase transition

The phenomenon of the low-temperature transition from antiferro- to ferromagnetic ordering of impurity spins in a nonmagnetic compensated n-Ge:As semiconductor near the metal-insulator phase transformation has been experimentally observed. The effect is manifested by rather sharp changes in the spin density and g-factor in the electron spin resonance spectra. As the relative content of a compensating impurity (gallium) is reduced below 0.7, the transition temperature begins to decrease and, at a degree of compensation below 0.3, drops below the studied temperature range (i.e., below 2 K).

The physics of doped Mott insulators remains controversial after decades of active research, hindered by the interplay among competing orders and fluctuations. It is thus highly desired to distinguish the intrinsic characters of the Mott-metal crossover from those of other origins. Here we investigate the evolution of electronic structure and dynamics of the hole-doped pseudospin-1/2 Mott insulator Sr ₂ IrO ₄ .
