Search for Light Resonances Decaying into Pairs of Muons as a Signal of New Physics

A search for groups of collimated muons is performed using a data sample collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC, at a centre-of-mass energy of 7 TeV, and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 35 inverse picobarns. The analysis searches for production of new low-mass states decaying into pairs of muons and is designed to achieve high sensitivity to a broad range of models predicting leptonic jet signatures. A search for an excited muon decaying to a muon and two jets in pp collisions at $$\sqrt{s}\;=\;8\;{\rm{TeV}}$$ with the ATLAS detector

Anew search signature for excited leptons is explored. Excited muons are sought in the channel pp → μμ*→ μμ jet jet, assuming both the production and decay occur via a contact interaction. The analysis is based on 20.3 fb^-1 of pp collision data at a centre-of-mass energy of s = 8 TeV taken with the ATLAS detector at the large hadron collider. No evidence of excited muons is found, and limits are set at the 95% confidence level on the cross section times branching ratio as a function of the excited-muonmass μμ*. A search is presented for pairs of light pseudoscalar bosons, in the mass range from 4 to 15 GeV, produced from decays of the 125 GeV Higgs boson. The decay modes considered are final states that arise when one of the pseudoscalars decays to a pair of tau leptons, and the other one either into a pair of tau leptons or muons.
