The results are presented for a basic heat transport experiment involving an off-axis heat source in which avalanche events occur. The configuration consists of a long, hollow, cylindrical region of elevated electron temperature embedded in a colder plasma, and far from the device walls [Van Compernolle et al. Phys. Rev. E 91, 031102(R) (2015)]. The avalanche events are identified as sudden rearrangements of the pressure profile following the growth of fluctuations from ambient noise. Avalanche transport of energetic-ions in magnetic confinement plasmas: nonlinear multiple wave-number simulation

Large burst activity, identified as toroidal Alfvén eigenmode (TAE) avalanche, occurs frequently in neutral-beam heated plasmas in National Spherical Torus Experiment (NSTX). Based on the typical experimental observation of TAE avalanche on NSTX, a self-consistent nonlinear multiple wave-number (k_∥ ≃ n/R, where n toroidal mode-number and R major radius) simulation associated with TAE avalanches is performed using the experimental parameters and profiles before the occurrence of TAE avalanche as the M3D-K input. Laboratory studies of the dynamic of resonance cones formation in magnetized plasmas

The paper is devoted to experimental studies of formation of resonance cones in magnetized plasmas by pulsed RF source in the lower-hybrid (whistler) and the upper-hybrid frequency ranges. It is shown that in both frequency ranges, resonance cones exhibit similar dynamics after switching-on the RF source: at first, wide maxima of radiation are formed in non-resonance directions, which then become narrower, with their direction approaching the resonance one. This article describes the recent findings on two-fluid effects on magnetic reconnection in plasmas with variable collisionality in the magnetic reconnection experiment (MRX) [M. Yamada et al., Phys. Plasmas 4, 1936 (1997)]. The MRX device has been upgraded to accommodate a variety of reconnection operation modes and high energy density experiments by increasing its capacitor bank energy and extending the discharge duration.
