Large-scale models of nuclear structure are currently the only way to provide consistent datasets for the many properties of thousands of exotic nuclei that are required by nucleosynthesis simulations. In [W. Ryssens et al., Eur. Phys. J. A 58, 246 (2022)], we recently presented the new BSkG2 model based on an energy density functional of the Skyrme type. Further explorations of Skyrme-Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov mass formulas. VII. Simultaneous fits to masses and fission barriers

We present a new Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov mass model, HFB-14, that is fitted to the fission data through adjustment of a vibrational term in the phenomenological collective correction. The rms deviation of the model from the 2149 measured masses of nuclei with Z,N{>=}8 is 0.729 MeV. The rms deviation for all 77 primary barriers listed in the RIPL-2 data compilation is 1.31 MeV, and only 0.67 MeV for the 52 primary barriers of nuclei lower than 9 MeV, the ones of greater astrophysical interest. A similar accuracy is obtained (0.65 MeV) for the 45 secondary experimental barriers necessary for a reliable calculationmore » of fission probabilities.« less

Large-scale fission barrier calculations have been performed in the framework of the Skyrme-Hartree-Fock model. Our Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov calculations restore broken symmetries such as translational invariance, particle-number conservation, parity, and, in a more approximate way, rotational invariance. Axial symmetry is imposed, but reflection asymmetry is allowed. The energy surface properties are analyzed with the flooding method. A large set of Skyrme interactions, which were fitted to all known masses under different specific constraints, is used to study the main effects influencing the energy surface and the barrier heights. Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov Fission Barriers with Skyrme Forces Adjusted on Masses

New systematic calculations of fission barriers are performed in the 3-dimensional deformation space using the constrained Skyrme-Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov (SHFB) plus Particle-Number Projection method. The BSk8 Skyrme force, fitted to the full set of more than 2000 experimentally known masses, is used. The energy surfaces are analysed using the flooding method, a necessary tool if more than two dimensions are spanned.The SHFB outer fission barriers are compared with experimental data. The reflection asymmetry is shown to play a significant role in the Z {approx_equal} 94 open-shell region. Extrapolations in the neutron-rich region can differ with the previous compilations of fission barriers.

Following suggestions that the energy associated with Coulomb correlations and a possible charge-symmetry breaking of nuclear forces might largely cancel the Coulomb-exchange term, we refit the HFB-14 mass model without the Coulomb-exchange term to essentially all the mass data. The resulting mass model, HFB-15, gives a better fit to the 2149 mass data, {sigma}{sub rms} falling from 0.729 to 0.678 MeV. The improvement in the energy differences between mirror nuclei is particularly striking: the Nolen-Schiffer anomaly, which is strong for HFB-14, is essentially eliminated.
