In this paper we derive holographic wave equations for hadrons with arbitrary spin starting from an effective action in a higher-dimensional space asymptotic to anti–de Sitter (AdS) space. Our procedure takes advantage of the local tangent frame, and it applies to all spins, including half-integer spins. An essential element is the mapping of the higher-dimensional equations of motion to the light-front Hamiltonian, thus allowing a clear distinction between the kinematical and dynamical aspects of the holographic approach to hadron physics. A general, numerical method for solving two-body, bound state Bethe-Salpeter equations: finite-energy solutions of a spin-0 and spin-1/2 constituent bound state by scalar electrodynamics

Finite-energy, bound-state solutions are obtained to the Bethe-Salpeter equation describing a spin-0 boson and a spin-1/2 fermion with unequal masses that interact via scalar electrodynamics. The equation is solved in the ladder approximation using a numerical method that yields solutions to many, if not all such, two-body, bound-state Bethe-Salpeter equations.

Higher-order perturbation theory for the bound states of the Dirac equation with a Yukawa-type potential

The method of calculating higher orders of perturbation theory based on perturbation of the Fock operator with a purely discrete spectrum is generalized to the case of the Dirac equation with a potential of the Yukawa type. Corrections to any order of perturbation theory in the energy of an arbitrary bound state are given as finite polynomials which are determined through recurrence relations derived from the dynamical symmetry of the unperturbed problem. We propose a modified Pade approximant method which can be used to transform a divergent perturbation series into a rapidly convergent sequence for all bound and quasistationary statesmore » of the system.« less
Lattice QCD determination of states with spin 5/2 or higher in the spectrum of nucleons

Energies for excited isospin 1/2 states that include the nucleon are computed using quenched, anisotropic lattices. Baryon interpolating field operators that are used include nonlocal operators that provide G{sub 2} irreducible representations of the octahedral group. States with spin 5/2 or higher are identified as degenerate energies that occur in irreducible representations of the octahedral group corresponding to the subduction of the continuum spin.

Spin splittings of heavy-quark bound states from lattice QCD

The spin-dependent potentials which determine the spin splittings of heavy-quark bound states are evaluated by a lattice Monte Carlo calculation. One of the spin-orbit potentials is found to have a long-range nonperturbative component, while all other potentials exhibit a short-ranged perturbative behavior. Calculations at two different values of the bare coupling constant demonstrate scaling. The spin splittings that follow from the calculated potentials are evaluated. Good agreement is found with experimental data provided that vacuum-polarization effects from qq-bar pairs at short distances are taken into account.
