Effects of intrinsic magnetostriction on tube-topology magnetoelectric sensors with high magnetic field sensitivity

Three quasi-one-dimensional magnetoelectric (ME) magnetic field sensors, each with a different magnetostrictive wire material, were investigated in terms of sensitivity and noise floor. Magnetostrictive Galfenol, iron-cobalt-vanadium, and iron-nickel wires were examined. Sensitivity profiles, hysteresis effects, and noise floor measurements for both optimally biased and zero-biased conditions are presented. The FeNi wire (FN) exhibits high sensitivity (5.36 mV/Oe) at bias fields below 22 Oe and an optimal bias of 10 Oe, whereas FeGa wire (FG) exhibits higher sensitivity (6.89 mW/Oe) at bias fields >22 Oe. Correlated topological insulators and the fractional magnetoelectric effect

Topological insulators are characterized by the presence of gapless surface modes protected by time-reversal symmetry. In three space dimensions the magnetoelectric response is described in terms of a bulk {theta} term for the electromagnetic field. Here we construct theoretical examples of such phases that cannot be smoothly connected to any band insulator. Such correlated topological insulators admit the possibility of fractional magnetoelectric response described by fractional {theta}/{pi}. Quantized topological magnetoelectric effect of the zero-plateau quantum anomalous Hall state

The topological magnetoelectric effect in a three-dimensional topological insulator is a novel phenomenon, where an electric field induces a magnetic field in the same direction, with a universal coefficient of proportionality quantized in units of $e²/2h$. Here in this paper, we propose that the topological magnetoelectric effect can be realized in the zero-plateau quantum anomalous Hall state of magnetic topological insulators or a ferromagnet-topological insulator heterostructure. Time-decaying magnetoelectric effects in multiferroic fibrous composites with a viscous interface

This paper addresses the time-dependent magnetoelectroelastic responses of multiferroic fibrous composites with a viscous interface. First, the problem of an isolated multiferroic fiber embedded in an infinite multiferroic matrix is rigorously solved. It is observed that the internal magnetoelectroelastic field such as stresses, electric displacements, and magnetic inductions inside an isolated multiferroic fiber is uniform but time dependent. The Mori-Tanaka mean-field method is then utilized to derive an extremely concise expression of the time-dependent effective moduli of the multiferroic fibrous composite.
