Novel CP-violating effects in B decays from a charged Higgs boson in a two-Higgs-doublet model for the top quark

We explore charged-Higgs CP-violating effects in a specific type III two-Higgs-doublet model which is theoretically attractive as it accommodates the large mass of the top quark in a natural fashion. Two new CP-violating phases arise from the right-handed up quark sector. We consider CP violation in both neutral and charged B decays. Some of the important findings are as follows. (1) Large direct-CP asymmetry is found to be possible for B{sup {+-}}{yields}{psi}/JK{sup {+-}}. (2) A sizable DD(bar sign) mixing effect at the percent level is found to be admissible despite the stringent constraints from the data on KK(bar sign) mixing,more »« less

Top and Higgs flavor changing neutral couplings in two Higgs doublets model

We study various channels of top and Higgs flavor changing neutral couplings in the two Higgs doublet model with natural flavor conservation (2HDM-I and 2HDM-II). We update known results about t{yields}c{gamma},cZ,cg and comment on t{yields}ch{sup 0}. The decays t{yields}ch{sup 0} as well as {l_brace}h{sup 0},H{sup 0}{r_brace}{yields}tc are sensitive both to the bottom Yukawa coupling as well as to the trilinear scalar couplings h{sup 0}H{sup +}H{sup -} and H{sup 0}H{sup +}H{sup -}. Three-body decays of a heavy top quark in two-Higgs-doublet models

Three-body top quark decays {ital t}{r_arrow}{ital H}{sup +}{ital b}({ital Z},{gamma},{ital g}) and {ital t}{r_arrow}{ital H}{sup +}{ital bH}{sup {ital i}} are calculated in two-Higgs-doublet models. We find that the branching ratio of the decay {ital t}{r_arrow}{ital H}{sup +}{ital b}({ital Z},{ital H}{sup {ital i}}) can reach the 10{sup {minus}4}--10{sup {minus}5} level for favorable parameter values and our calculations confirm the previous results given by another group for the channel {ital t}{r_arrow}{ital H}{sup +}{ital b}({ital g},{gamma}). Also, we discuss the feasibility of observing these top quark decays at future high energy colliders.

Rare decays of the top quark in the standard and two-Higgs-doublet models

The decays {ital t}{r arrow}{ital cV}, where {ital V}={gamma}, {ital g}, or {ital Z}, and {ital t}{r arrow}{ital cH} are calculated, keeping all masses, in the standard model (SM) for all possible values of the top-quark mass that are consistent with present data. We find that the branching fractions for these processes are small, the largest being {ital B}({ital t}{r arrow}{ital cH}){similar to}10{sup {minus}7} and {ital B}({ital t}{r arrow}{ital cg}){similar to}10{sup {minus}10}. Our calculations are then extended to include the possible contributions of charged Higgs bosons to the transitions {ital t}{r arrow}{ital cV} in the context of general two-Higgs-doublet models.more »« less
