Predictions of the Paris N - N potential for three-nucleon continuum observables: Comparison of two approaches

Two different approaches for solving three-nucleon scattering are compared. The one relies on separable subsystem interactions, while the other one can use any two-nucleon potential and solves the three-body integral equations directly. Both approaches are tested in the case of a finite-rank expansion of the Paris {ital N}-{ital N} potential (the so-called PEST) and the results are then compared to the predictions calculated straight from the original interaction. By considering cross sections and polarization observables of elastic {ital n}-{ital d} scattering at {ital E}{sub {ital n}}=10 MeV, it is found that both methods lead to compatible results. Few-body bound states on a three-dimensional and two-dimensional lattice and continuum limit for one-dimensional many-body system

The three-body bound states of particles moving on a lattice and interacting with two-body point-like potentials are studied in two dimensions (2D) and three dimensions (3D) for spin 1/2 fermions and spin O bosons (with application to magnons). When a three boson bound state forms in 3D, it does so discontinuously implying a finite size of approximately two lattice constants. This phenomenon does not occur in 2D. For three fermions, interactions are effectively absent in the state S = 3/2. Experimental limits on the nucleon lifetime for two- and three-body decay modes

Lower limits in the range of 10/sup 31/ to 10/sup 32/ yr for the partial lifetimes of a number of nucleon decay modes are obtained from a 204-live-day exposure in an 8-ktonne water Cherenkov detector (3.3 ktonne in the fiducial volume). During this period 169 contained events were observed at a rate and with characteristics consistent with expected backgrounds from atmospheric ..nu.. interactions. Nine of the contained events are compatible with either a ..nu.. interaction or nucleon decay into a number of non-..nu.. modes.

Effects of the three-nucleon forces due to {pi} and {rho} meson exchanges in the three-nucleon continuum

Using the Bonn B nucleon-nucleon potential and the Tucson-Melbourne family of {pi}-{pi}, {pi}-{rho}, and {rho}-{rho} three-nucleon forces we solved the 3{ital N} Faddeev equation below and above the deuteron breakup threshold. For different elastic scattering and breakup observables we looked for the effects caused by adding consecutively the above 3{ital N} forces. The largest effects were found for the {pi}-{pi} three-nucleon force. The influence of {pi}-{rho} exchange was generally found to be smaller than {pi}-{pi} and it acts in opposite direction. Lattice continuum-limit study of nucleon parton quasidistribution functions
