The 92Mo(n, ) cross section was obtained using both the absolute surrogate approach and surrogate ratio method (SRM), relative to the 94 Mo(n, ) cross section, in an equivalent neutron energy range of 80 to 890 keV. Excited 93Mo and 95Mo nuclei were populated using the 92Mo(d, p) and 94Mo(d, p) reactions, respectively. Both discrete and statistical tagging approaches were employed to identify the -decay channel and were examined in terms of their sensitivity to the initial angular momentum population distribution. Surrogate ratio methodology for the indirect determination of neutron capture cross sections

The relative gamma-decay probabilities of the {sup 162}Dy to {sup 161}Dy and {sup 162}Dy to {sup 164}Dy residual nuclei, produced using light-ion-induced direct reactions, were measured as a function of excitation energy using the CACTUS array at the Oslo Cyclotron Laboratory. The external surrogate ratio method (SRM) was used to convert these relative gamma-decay probabilities into the {sup 161}Dy(n,gamma) cross section in an equivalent neutron energy range of 130-560 keV. Cross sections for compound-nuclear reactions involving unstable targets are important for many applications, but can often not be measured directly. Here we describe a method for extracting cross sections for neutron-capture on unstable isotopes from indirect (surrogate) measurements. The surrogate reaction, which produces the compound nucleus of interest, has to be described and the decay of the nucleus has to be modeled. Use of Neutron Transfer Reactions to Indirectly Determine Neutron Capture Cross Sections on Neutron-Rich Nuclei

{sup 14}C(n,gamma){sup 15}C is being used as a test case in the development of an indirect method to determine neutron capture cross sections on neutron-rich unstable nuclei at astrophysical energies. Our approach makes use of two reactions: one peripheral used to find the asymptotic normalization coefficient (ANC) and a second non-peripheral reaction to determine the spectroscopic factor. The ANC for {sup 15}C has been determined using a HI neutron transfer reaction with a 12 MeV/nucleon {sup 14}C beam on a {sup 13}C target.
