We match analytic results to numerical calculations to provide a detailed picture of the metal-insulator and topological transitions found in density functional plus cluster dynamical mean-field calculations of pyrochlore iridates. We discuss the transition from Weyl metal to Weyl semimetal regimes, and then analyze in detail the properties of the Weyl semimetal phase and its evolution into the topologically trivial insulator. The energy scales in the Weyl semimetal phase are found to be very small, as are the anisotropy parameters. Field-induced quantum metal–insulator transition in the pyrochlore iridate Nd₂Ir₂O₇

The metal–insulator transition (MIT) is a hallmark of strong correlation in solids. Quantum MITs at zero temperature have been observed in various systems tuned by either carrier doping or bandwidth. However, such transitions have rarely been induced by application of magnetic field, as normally the field scale is too small in comparison with the charge gap, whose size is a fraction of the Coulomb repulsion energy (~1 eV). Here we report the discovery of a quantum MIT tuned by a field of ~10 T, whose magnetoresistance exceeds 60,000%. X-ray scattering study of pyrochlore iridates: Crystal structure, electronic, and magnetic excitations

We have investigated the structural, electronic, and magnetic properties of the pyrochlore iridates Eu₂Ir₂O₇ and Pr₂Ir₂O₇ using a combination of resonant elastic x-ray scattering, x-ray powder diffraction, and resonant inelastic x-ray scattering (RIXS). The structural parameters of Eu₂Ir₂O₇ have been examined as a function of temperature and applied pressure, with a particular emphasis on regions of the phase diagram where electronic and magnetic phase transitions have been reported.
