The effect of size and charge on the adsorption of organic and inorganic cations at the silica/CH{sub 3}CH interface has been investigated using nonlinear optical molecular probes (NOMP). Dramatic size effect has been observed for the adsorption of organic cations at the silica/CH{sub 3}CN interface. For organic cations with the structure of N(C{sub n}H{sub 2n+1}){sub 4}{sup +}, the free energy of adsorption is a linear function of the number of carbons in each chain (n), and it can be described by the following equation: {Delta}G{sub ad} = {minus}30.60 + 3.07n (kJ mol{sup {minus}1}). Molecular dynamics simulation of the solid-liquid interface migration in terbium

In this work, we developed a Tb embedded atom method potential which properly reproduces the liquid structure obtained from the ab initio molecular dynamics simulation, the hexagonal close packed (hcp)-body-centered cubic (bcc) phase transformation, and melting temperatures. At least three crystal phases [hcp, face-centered cubic (fcc), and bcc] described by this potential can coexist with the liquid phase. Thus, the developed potential provides an excellent test bed for studies of the completive phase nucleation and growth in a single component system. An understanding of the wetting properties and a characterization of theinterface between liquid lithium (Li) and solid molybdenum (Mo) are relevant to assessing the efficacy of Li as a plasma-facing component in fusion reactors. Here, a new second-nearest neighbor modified embedded-atom method (2NN MEAM) force eld is parameterized to describe the interactions between Li and Mo. The new force eld reproduces several benchmark properties obtained from first-principles quantum mechanics simulations, including binding curves for Li at three different adsorption sites and the corresponding forces on Li atoms adsorbed on the Mo (110) surface.
