We investigate numerically stable structures of vortex states in rotating two-component Bose-Einstein condensates (BECs) in a quadratic plus quartic potential. We discover various new vortex structures by changing the intracomponent coupling constants, the intercomponent coupling constant and the rotation frequency.

Quadrupole and scissors modes and nonlinear mode coupling in trapped two-component Bose-Einstein condensates

We theoretically investigate quadrupolar collective excitations in two-component Bose-Einstein condensates and their nonlinear dynamics associated with harmonic generation and mode coupling. Under the Thomas-Fermi approximation and the quadratic polynomial ansatz for density fluctuations, the linear analysis of the superfluid hydrodynamic equations predicts excitation frequencies of three normal modes constituted from monopole and quadrupole oscillations, and those of three scissors modes. These six modes are bifurcated into in-phase and out-of-phase modes by the intercomponent interaction, yielding the nonlinear dynamics that are absent in a single-component condensate. Trap- and population-imbalanced two-component Fermi gas in the Bose-Einstein-condensate limit

We study equal mass population imbalanced two-component atomic Fermi gas with unequal trap frequencies (omega{sub a}rrow upnot =omega{sub a}rrow down) at zero temperature using the local density approximation (LDA). We consider the strongly attracting Bose-Einstein condensation (BEC) limit where polarized (gapless) superfluid is stable. The system exhibits shell structure: unpolarized superfluid->polarized superfluid->normal state. Compared to the trap symmetric case, when the majority component is tightly confined the gapless superfluid shell grows in size leading to reduced threshold polarization to form a polarized (gapless) superfluid core. Rotational response of two-component Bose-Einstein condensates in ring traps

We consider a two-component Bose-Einstein condensate in a ring trap in a rotating frame and show how to determine the response of such a configuration to being in a rotating frame via accumulation of a Sagnac phase. This may be accomplished through either population oscillations or the motion of spatial-density fringes. We explicitly include the effect of interactions via a mean-field description and study the fidelity of the dynamics relative to an ideal configuration.

Competition between attractive and repulsive interactions in two-component Bose-Einstein condensates trapped in an optical lattice

We consider effects of interspecies attraction on two-component gap solitons (GSs) in the binary BEC with intraspecies repulsion, trapped in the one-dimensional optical lattice (OL). Systematic simulations of the coupled Gross-Pitaevskii equations corroborate an assumption that, because the effective mass of GSs is negative, the interspecies attraction may split the two-component soliton. Two critical values, {kappa}{sub 1} and {kappa}{sub 2}, of the OL strength ({kappa}) are identified. Two-species GSs with fully overlapping wave functions are stable in strong lattices ({kappa}>{kappa}{sub 1}).
