Dynamical chiral symmetry breaking and its connection to the generation of hadron masses has historically been viewed as a vacuum phenomenon. We argue that confinement makes such a position untenable. If quark-hadron duality is a reality in QCD, then condensates, those quantities that have commonly been viewed as constant empirical mass-scales that fill all spacetime, are instead wholly contained within hadrons; i.e., they are a property of hadrons themselves and expressed, e.g., in their Bethe-Salpeter or light-front wave functions. We explain that this paradigm is consistent with empirical evidence, and incidentally expose misconceptions in a recent Comment.

Copper-Based Catalysts Confined in Carbon Nanocage Reactors for Condensed Ester Hydrogenation: Tuning Copper Species by Confined SiO₂ and Methanol Resistance

Hydrogenation of aliphatic esters to natural alcohols is an important strategy for the efficient utilization of biomass-derived oils. The synthesis of highly active copper (Cu)-based catalysts is a challenge for condensed-phase ester hydrogenation due to the difficulties in controlling active sites and catalyst deactivation. In this work, a copper-based catalyst confined in a carbon nanocage reactor was successfully designed and prepared. The copper catalyst with 56 wt % SiO₂ exhibited the best performance because of the optimum proportion of Cu⁺ and Cu⁰ sites and high dispersion. Heat transfer between a flow containing condensed liquid particles and a wall on which a solid surface layer of condensate forms

An approximative method is discussed for calculating the heat transfer between a two-phase flow and a wall under conditions such that liquid particles contained in the flow precipitate onto the wall under the influence of inertial forces or other migration effects, forming a solidified layer on the surface. The thickness of the solid layer, its growth rate, and the thickness of the condensate film flowing over the surface of the solid layer are calculated for two nozzle wall configurations. It is shown that the solid layer and liquid condensate film affect the thermal state of the wall.

This paper reports part of a study of possible severe pressurized water reactor (PWR) accidents. The need for containment modeling, and in particular for a hydrogen risk study, was reinforced in France after 1990, with the requirement that severe accidents must be taken into account in the design of future plants. This new need of assessing the transient local hydrogen concentration led to the development, in the Mechanical Engineering and Technology Department of the French Atomic Energy Commission (CEA/DMT), of the multidimensional code GEYSER/TONUS for containment analysis.
