Surrogate models are commonly used in Bayesian approaches such as Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) to avoid repetitive CPU-demanding model evaluations. However, the approximation error of a surrogate may lead to biased estimations of the posterior distribution. This bias can be corrected by constructing a very accurate surrogate or implementing MCMC in a two-stage manner. Nonlinear Gaussian expansions of stochastic processes: Non-Gaussian effects in coherent anti-stokes Raman spectroscopy

We propose a new approach to the analysis of stochastic processes (such as fluctuating laser fields) with non-Gaussian statistics: the expansion of stochastic processes in terms of first and higher power of Gaussian components, which are used like a basis set. This approach is applied to treat the non-Gaussian correlation effects observed in coherent anti-Stokes Raman scattering experiments using frequency-doubled pump-laser fields. Our results give much better agreement with experimental data than previous theories.
Gaussian approximations to conditional distributions for multi-Gaussian processes

Suppose a multi-Gaussian process is observed at some set of sites, and they wish to obtain the conditional block grade distribution given some observations. They show that this conditional distribution is approximately Gaussian under certain conditions. Kepler Data Analysis: Non-Gaussian Noise and Fourier Gaussian Process Analysis of Stellar Variability

We develop a statistical analysis model of Kepler stellar flux data in the presence of planet transits, non-Gaussian noise, and stellar variability. We first develop a model for the Kepler noise probability distribution in the presence of outliers, which make the noise probability distribution non-Gaussian. We develop a signal likelihood analysis based on this probability distribution, in which we model the signal as a sum of the star variability and planetary transits.
