Fermion masses and the UV cutoff of the minimal realistic SU(5) model

We investigate the predictions for fermion masses in the minimal realistic nonsupersymmetric SU(5) model with the standard model matter content. The possibility to achieve b-{tau} unification is studied taking into account all relevant effects. In addition, we show how to establish an upper bound on the ultraviolet cutoff {lambda} of the theory which is compatible with the Yukawa couplings at the grand unified scale and proton decay. We find {lambda}{approx_equal}10{sup 17} GeV, to be considered a conservative upper bound on the cutoff. We also provide up-to-date values of all the fermions masses at the electroweak scale.

Fermion mass hierarchy and proton stability from nonanomalous U(1){sub F} in supersymmetric SU(5)

We present a realistic supersymmetric SU(5) model combined with a nonanomalous U(1){sub F} symmetry. We find a set of U(1){sub F} charges which automatically lead to the realistic mass hierarchy and mixing patterns for quarks, leptons, and neutrinos. All gauge anomalies, including the [U(1){sub F}]{sup 3} anomaly, are canceled in our model without invoking the Green-Schwarz mechanism or having exotic fields. Proton decay mediated by dimension-5 operators is automatically suppressed in our model, because the scale set by the largest right-handed neutrino mass is much less than the GUT scale.

We study the muon anomalous magnetic moment (muon g-2) and the Higgs boson mass in a simple extension of the minimal supersymmetric (SUSY) standard model with extra vectorlike matters, in the frameworks of gauge-mediated SUSY breaking (GMSB) models and gravity mediation (mSUGRA) models. It is shown that the deviation of the muon g-2 and a relatively heavy Higgs boson can be simultaneously explained in large tan{beta} region. (i) In GMSB models, the Higgs mass can be more than 135 GeV (130 GeV) in the region where the muon g-2 is consistent with the experimental value at the 2{sigma} (1{sigma}) level,more »« less

Dimension five interactions, fermion masses and Higgs mediated proton decay in SU(5)

By supplementing the standard SU(5) Lagrangian with nonrenormalizable (dimension five) terms which are needed in any case to obtain acceptable masses for the first two fermion generations, the proton decay predictions can be neatly reconciled with the ongoing experiments. We present a class of such models in which the dominant decay mode of the proton is ..mu../sup +/K/sup 0/. A triplet of colored Higgs bosons of mass approx.10/sup 12/ GeV, required for successfully implementing the inflationary scenario, mediate this and other decays.
