Coulomb breakup effects on the elastic cross section of {sup 6}He+{sup 209}Bi scattering near Coulomb barrier energies

We accurately analyze the {sup 6}He+{sup 209}Bi scattering at 19 and 22.5 MeV near the Coulomb barrier energy, using the continuum-discretized coupled-channels (CDCC) method based on the n+n+ {sup 4}He+{sup 209}Bi four-body model. The three-body breakup continuum of {sup 6}He is discretized by diagonalizing the internal Hamiltonian of {sup 6}He in a space spanned by the Gaussian basis functions. The calculated elastic and total reaction cross sections are in good agreement with the experimental data, whereas the CDCC calculation based on the dineutron model of {sup 6}He, that is, the {sup 2}n+ {sup 4}He+{sup 209}Bi three-body model, does not reproducemore » the data.« less

Relativistic impulse approximation description of polarized proton elastic scattering from polarized /sup 13/C

The elastic scattering of intermediate energy polarized protons from polarized /sup 13/C is studied within the framework of the relativistic distorted wave Born approximation using the relativistic impulse approximation to describe the projectile--target nucleon interaction. Sensitivities of observables to (1) the upper and lower components of the valence nucleon wave function, (2) the Lorentz form of the two-body interaction, (3) isoscalar three-vector currents, and (4) the individual strengths of the separate Lorentz terms in the two-body interaction are calculated and discussed. MEASUREMENT OF THE POLARIZATION OF PROTONS ELASTICALLY SCATTERED ON D$sup 2$, T$sup 3$, AND He$sup 3$ NUCLEI (in Russian)

The polarization of protons scattered on /sup 3/He is measured for energies between 2.7 and 4 Mev and a scattering angle of 40 deg . With growth of energy above 2.5 Mev an appreciable polarization appears which reaches a maximum STAP = (30 plus or minus 5)%! at E = 3.37 Mev. at higher energies the polarization begins to drop off. Protons scattered on tritium at an angle of 40 deg and energy 3.0 Mev are almost unpolarized. At 3.48 Mev the polarization is (-22 plus or minus 11)%.
