Unconventional Charge Density Wave Order in the Pnictide Superconductor $Ba ({Ni}_{1 - x} {Co}_{x})_{2} {As}_{2}$

Ba(Ni_1–xCo_x)₂As₂ is a structural homologue of the pnictide high temperature superconductor, Ba(Fe_1–xCo_x)₂As₂, in which the Fe atoms are replaced by Ni. Superconductivity is highly suppressed in this system, reaching a maximum T_c = 2.3 K, compared to 24 K in its iron-based cousin, and the origin of this T_c suppression is not known. Using x-ray scattering, we show that Ba(Ni_1–xCo_x)₂As₂ exhibits a unidirectional charge density wave (CDW) at its triclinic phase transition. The CDW is incommensurate, exhibits a sizable lattice distortion, and is accompanied by the appearance of α Fermi surface pockets in photoemission [B. Zhou et al., Phys. Rev.more »« less

Disorder-Driven Transition from $s_{\pm}$ to $s_{+ +}$ Superconducting Order Parameter in Proton Irradiated $Ba ({Fe}_{1 - x} {Rh}_{x})_{2} {As}_{2}$ Single Crystals

Here, microwave measurements of the London penetration depth and critical temperature T_c were used to show evidence of a disordered-driven transition from s_± to s₊₊ order parameter symmetry in optimally doped Ba(Fe_1–xRh_x)₂As₂ single crystals, where disorder was induced by means of 3.5 MeV proton irradiation. Signatures of such a transition, as theoretically predicted, are found as a drop in the low-temperature values of the London penetration depth and a virtually disorder-independent superconducting T_c. We show how these experimental observations can be described by multiband Eliashberg calculations in which the effect of disorder is accounted for in a suitable way. Tomore »« less

Measurement of higher-order multipole amplitudes in $ψ (3686) \to γ χ_{c 1, 2}$ with $χ_{c 1, 2} \to γ J / ψ$ and search for the transition $η_{c} (2 S) \to γ J / ψ$

Using 106 ×10⁶ ψ (3686) events collected with the BESIII detector, we measure multipole amplitudes for the decay ψ (3686) → γχ_c1,2 → γγ J/ψ beyond the dominant electric-dipole amplitudes. The normalized magnetic-quadrupole (M2) amplitude for ψ (3686) → γχ_c1,2 → γγ J/ψ and the normalized electric-octupole amplitudes for ψ ( 3686 ) → γχ_c2, χ_c2 → γJ/ψ are determined. The M2 amplitudes for ψ (3686) → γ χ_c1 and χ_c1,2 → γ J / ψ are found to differ significantly from zero and are consistent with theoretical predictions.
