Lattice quantum chromodynamics (QCD) studies of the thermodynamics of hot quark-gluon plasma demonstrate the importance of accounting for the interactions of quarks and gluons if one wants to investigate the phase structure of strongly interacting matter. Motivated by this observation and using state-of-the-art results from perturbative QCD, we construct a simple, effective equation of state (EOS) for cold quark matter that consistently incorporates the effects of interactions and furthermore includes a built-in estimate of the inherent systematic uncertainties. Kaons in dense half-Skyrmion matter

Dense hadronic matter at low temperatures is expected to be in a crystalline state and at high density to make a transition to a chirally restored but color-confined state, which is a novel phase hitherto unexplored. This phase transition is predicted in both skyrmion matter in four dimensions and instanton matter in five dimensions, the former in the form of half-skyrmions and the latter in the form of half-instantons or dyons. In recent years, there have been several successful attempts to constrain the equation of state of neutron star matter using input from low-energy nuclear physics and observational data. We demonstrate that significant further restrictions can be placed by additionally requiring the pressure to approach that of deconfined quark matter at high densities. Astrophysical implications of equation of state for hadron-quark mixed phase: Compact stars and stellar collapses

We construct an equation of state including the hadron-quark phase transition. The mixed phase is obtained by the Gibbs conditions for finite temperature. We adopt the equation of state based on the relativistic mean field theory for the hadronic phase, taking into account pions. As for the quark phase, the MIT bag model of the deconfined 3-flavor strange quark matter is used. As a result, our equation of state is thermodynamically stable and qualitatively exhibits the desired properties of hadron-quark mixed matter, such as the temperature dependence of the transition density. Equation of state for the magnetic-color-flavor-locked phase and its implications for compact star models

Using the solutions of the gap equations of the magnetic-color-flavor-locked (MCFL) phase of paired quark matter in a magnetic field, and taking into consideration the separation between the longitudinal and transverse pressures due to the field-induced breaking of the spatial rotational symmetry, the equation of state of the MCFL phase is self-consistently determined.
