The finite-size scaling prediction about logarithmic corrections in the free energy arising from corners in the geometry of the system is tested on the three-dimensional mean spherical model. The general case of boundary conditions which are periodic in d[prime] [ge] 0 dimensions and free or fixed in the remaining 3 - d[prime] dimensions is considered. Logarithmic and double-logarithmic size corrections stemming from corners, edges, and surfaces are obtained. 15 refs.

Spherical 2+p spin-glass model: An analytically solvable model with a glass-to-glass transition

We present the detailed analysis of the spherical s+p spin-glass model with two competing interactions: among p spins and among s spins. The most interesting case is the 2+p model with p{>=}4 for which a very rich phase diagram occurs, including, next to the paramagnetic and the glassy phase represented by the one step replica symmetry breaking ansatz typical of the spherical p-spin model, another two amorphous phases. Transitions between two contiguous phases can also be of a different kind. The model can thus serve as a mean-field representation of amorphous-amorphous transitions (or transitions between undercooled liquids of different structure).more »« less

Comment on 'Spherical 2+p spin-glass model: An analytically solvable model with a glass-to-glass transition'

Guided by old results on simple mode-coupling models displaying glass-glass transitions, we demonstrate, through a crude analysis of the solution with one step of replica symmetry breaking (1RSB) derived by Crisanti and Leuzzi for the spherical s+p mean-field spin glass [Phys. Rev. B 73, 014412 (2006)], that the phase behavior of these systems is not yet fully understood when s and p are well separated. First, there seems to be a possibility of glass-glass transition scenarios in these systems. Second, we find clear indications that the 1RSB solution cannot be correct in the full glassy phase. In his Comment, Krakoviack [Phys. Rev. B 76, 136401 (2007)] finds that the phase behavior of the s+p spin-glass model is different from that proposed by Crisanti and Leuzzi [Phys. Rev. B 73, 014412 (2006)] if s and p are larger than 2 and are separated well enough. He proposes a trial picture, based on a one step replica symmetry breaking solution, displaying a mode-coupling-like glass-to-glass transition line ending in an A{sub 3} singularity. Finite-size effects in Cu-Mn spin glasses

Finite-size effects in the spin glass (SG) Cu-Mn have been studied using magnetron-sputtered multilayer systems (MS's) of the form Cu{sub 1{minus}{ital x}}Mn{sub {ital x}}/Cu and Cu{sub 1{minus}{ital x}}Mn{sub {ital x}}/Si with {ital x}=0.04, 0.07, 0.14 (and some data for 0.21). The SG layers have widths {ital W}{sub Cu-Mn} ranging from 10 000 to 20 A and are separated and magnetically decoupled from each other by interlayers of either 300 A of Cu or 70 A of Si.
