Stochastic quantization of Yang-Mills field theory: Gauge-fixing parameter dependence and equilibrium limit

We calculate, in the framework of stochastic quantization, the one-loop-divergent part of the gluon self-energy and the triple-gluon vertex of pure Yang-Mills field theory, with an arbitrary choice of the stochastic gauge-fixing parameter. This allows us to check that the strong conditions imposed by renormalizability are satisfied up to one-loop order. We compare our results with those coming from the Faddeev-Popov theory and discuss the relationship between both approaches in the equilibrium limit.

Properties of Yang-Mills theories with gauge-fixing conditions on the field strength

Within the Hamiltonian formulation and by means of Dirac's constraint formalism we investigate the properties of Yang-Mills theories when the gauge-fixing conditions involve the field strength E/sup i//sub a/. We show, e.g., that C/sub a/biE/sup i//sub b/ = 0, where C/sub a/bc are the structure constants of the gauge group, are satisfactory gauge conditions for any semisimple gauge group in a basis where the first three indices represent a minimal SU(2) embedding. Equivariant symplectic geometry of gauge fixing in Yang-Mills theory

The Faddeev-Popov gauge fixing in Yang-Mills theory is interpreted as equivariant localization. It is shown that the Faddeev-Popov procedure amounts to a construction of a symplectic manifold with a Hamiltonian group action. The BRST cohomology is shown to be equivalent to the equivariant cohomology based on this symplectic manifold with Hamiltonian group action. Topological aspects of gauge-fixing Yang-Mills theory on {ital S}{sub 4}

For an {ital S}{sub 4} space-time manifold global aspects of gauge fixing are investigated using the relation to topological quantum field theory (TQFT) on the gauge group. The partition function of this TQFT is shown to compute the regularized Euler character of a suitably defined space of gauge transformations. Running couplings in equivariantly gauge-fixed SU(N) Yang-Mills theories

In equivariantly gauge-fixed SU(N) Yang-Mills theories, the gauge symmetry is only partially fixed, leaving a subgroup H subset of SU(N) unfixed. Such theories avoid Neuberger's nogo theorem if the subgroup H contains at least the Cartan subgroup U(1){sup N-1}, and they are thus nonperturbatively well defined if regulated on a finite lattice. We calculate the one-loop beta function for the coupling g-tilde{sup 2}={xi}g{sup 2}, where g is the gauge coupling and {xi} is the gauge parameter, for a class of subgroups including the cases that H=U(1){sup N-1} or H=SU(M)xSU(N-M)xU(1).
