Liquid ⁴He becomes superfluid and flows without resistance below temperature 2.17 K. Superfluidity has been a subject of intense studies and notable advances were made in elucidating the phenomenon by experiment and theory. Nevertheless, details of the microscopic state, including dynamic atom–atom correlations in the superfluid state, are not fully understood. Here using a technique of neutron dynamic pair-density function (DPDF) analysis we show that ⁴He atoms in the Bose–Einstein condensate have environment significantly different from uncondensed atoms, with the interatomic distance larger than the average by about 10%, whereas the average structure changes little through the superfluid transition. Compressible Rayleigh–Taylor instability subject to isochoric initial background state

The effect of compressibility on the single-mode Rayleigh–Taylor instability is examined using two (2D) and three-dimensional (3D) direct numerical simulations. To isolate compressibility from background stratification effects, this work employs a constant density profile on each side of the interface. The numerical simulations are performed at various Reynolds numbers using the gas kinetic method for static Mach numbers up to M = 0.4. Understanding whether Helium can sediment to the core of galaxy clusters is important for a number of problems in cosmology and astrophysics. All current models addressing this question are one-dimensional and do not account for the fact that magnetic fields can effectively channel ions and electrons, leading to anisotropic transport of momentum, heat, and particle diffusion in the weakly collisional intracluster medium (ICM). Wave functions in momentum space. I. Iterative computation for the helium atom in Hartree--Fock approximation

The possibilities of obtaining wave functions for atoms and molecules by iteration of equations in momentum space have been examined. Using a first-iterate orbital some approximations to the Hartree--Fock ground state energy have been calculated. The accuracy of these results is strongly dependent on a variation of the parameters that characterize the orbital. The second-iterate orbital contains logarithmic and arctangent functions and there appear unfamiliar special functions in the third- and higher-iterate orbitals.
