Accurate 3D coupled channel calculations for total angular momentum {ital J}=0 for the reaction F+H{sub 2}{r arrow}HF+H using a realistic potential energy surface are analyzed. The reactive scattering is formulated using the hyperspherical (APH) coordinates of Pack and Parker. The adiabatic basis functions are generated quite efficiently using the discrete variable representation method. Reaction probabilities for relative collision energies of up to 17.4 kcal/mol are presented. Hybrid approach to molecular continuum processes combining Gaussian basis functions and the discrete variable representation

Gaussian basis functions, routinely employed in molecular electronic structure calculations, can be combined with numerical grid-based functions in a discrete variable representation to provide an efficient method for computing molecular continuum wave functions. This approach, combined with exterior complex scaling, obviates the need for slowly convergent single-center expansions, and allows one to study a variety of electron-molecule collision problems. The method is illustrated by computation of various bound and continuum properties of H{sub 2}{sup +}.

Bessel-Zernike Discrete Variable Representation Basis

The connection between the Bessel discrete variable basis expansion and a specific form of an orthogonal set of Jacobi polynomials is demonstrated. These so-called Zernike polynomials provide alternative series expansions of suitable functions over the unit interval. Expressing a Bessel function in a Zernike expansion provides a straightforward method of generating series identities. Furthermore, the Zernike polynomials may also be used to efficiently evaluate the Hankel transform for rapidly decaying functions or functions with finite support.

Photoionization cross sections of hydrogen impurities in spherical quantum dots using the finite-element discrete-variable representation

The method of complex-coordinate rotation in a finite-element discrete variable representation is implemented to study the photoionization of hydrogen impurity in spherical quantum dots which are modelled by finite oscillator and Gaussian potentials. The level splitting and crossing of hydrogen impurities due to the variation of dot radii and confining potentials are presented, as well as the shifting down of the energy of hydrogenic impurity toward the combined energy of the free hydrogen and the amplitude of the confining potential.
