We investigate, within the type I seesaw framework, the physical implications of zero textures in the Yukawa couplings which generate the neutrino Dirac mass matrix m{sub D}. It is shown that four is the maximal number of texture zeros compatible with the observed leptonic mixing and the assumption that no neutrino mass vanishes. We classify all allowed four-zero textures of m{sub D} into two categories with three classes each. We show that the different classes, in general, admit CP violation both at low and high energies. The generation of the right amount of baryon asymmetry η of the Universe from supersymmetric leptogenesis is studied within the type-I seesaw framework with three heavy singlet Majorana neutrinos N{sub i} (i = 1,2,3) and their superpartners. We assume the occurrence of four zeroes in the neutrino Yukawa coupling matrix Y{sub ν}, taken to be μτ symmetric, in the weak basis where N{sub i} (with real masses M{sub i} > 0) and the charged leptons l{sub α} (α = e,μ,τ) are mass diagonal. Neutrino seesaw mechanism with texture zeros

In the context of the Type I seesaw mechanism, we carry out a systematic study of the constraints that result from zeros in both the Dirac and right-handed Majorana neutrino mass matrices. We find that most constraints can be expressed in the standard form with one or two element/cofactor zeros alone, while there are 9 classes of nonstandard constraints. We show that all the constraints are stable under one-loop renormalization group running from the lightest right-handed neutrino mass scale to the electroweak scale. Can the four-zero-texture mass matrix model reproduce the observed quark and lepton mixing angles and CP-violating phases?

We reconsider a universal mass matrix model which has a seesaw-invariant structure with four-zero texture common to all quarks and leptons. The Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa (CKM) quark and Maki-Nakagawa-Sakata (MNS) lepton mixing matrices of the model are analyzed analytically. We show that the model can be consistent with all the experimental data of neutrino oscillation and quark mixings by tuning free parameters of the model. It is also shown that the model predicts a relatively large value for the (1, 3) element of the MNS lepton mixing matrix (U{sub MNS}){sub 13}{sup 2}{approx_equal}(0.041-9.6)x10{sup -2}. Connection between the neutrino seesaw mechanism and properties of the Majorana neutrino mass matrix

If it can be ascertained experimentally that the 3x3 Majorana neutrino mass matrix M{sub {nu}} has vanishing determinants for one or more of its 2x2 submatrices, it may be interpreted as supporting evidence for the theoretically well-known canonical seesaw mechanism. I show how these two things are connected and offer a realistic M{sub {nu}} with two zero subdeterminants as an example.
