Low energy constants of $S U (2)$ partially quenched chiral perturbation theory from $N_{f} = 2 + 1$ domain wall QCD

Here, we have performed fits of the pseudoscalar masses and decay constants, from a variety of the RBC-UKQCD Collaboration’s domain wall fermion ensembles, to SU(2) partially quenched chiral perturbation theory at next-to-leading order (NLO) and next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO). We report values for 9 NLO and 8 linearly independent combinations of NNLO partially quenched low-energy constants, which we compare to other lattice and phenomenological determinations. We discuss the size of successive terms in the chiral expansion and use our large set of low-energy constants to make predictions for mass splittings due to QCD isospin-breaking effects and the S-wave ππ scattering lengths.more »« less

Determining the $r p$ -Process Flow through ${}^{56}{Ni}$ : Resonances in ${}^{57}{Cu} (p, γ) {}^{58}{Zn}$ Identified with GRETINA

An approach is presented in this paper to experimentally constrain previously unreachable (p,γ) reaction rates on nuclei far from stability in the astrophysical rp process. Energies of all critical resonances in the ⁵⁷Cu(p,γ)⁵⁸Zn reaction are deduced by populating states in ⁵⁸Zn with a (d,n) reaction in inverse kinematics at 75 MeV/u, and detecting γ-ray-recoil coincidences with the state-of-the-art γ-ray tracking array GRETINA and the S800 spectrograph at the National Superconducting Cyclotron Laboratory. The results reduce the uncertainty in the ⁵⁷Cu(p,γ) reaction rate by several orders of magnitude. Finally, the effective lifetime of ⁵⁶Ni, an important waiting point in the rpmore »« less
