Multiangle simulation of flavor evolution in the neutronization neutrino burst from an O-Ne-Mg core-collapse supernova

We report results of the first 3x3 'multiangle' simulation of the evolution of neutrino flavor in the core-collapse supernova environment. In particular, we follow neutrino flavor transformation in the neutronization neutrino burst of an O-Ne-Mg core-collapse event. Though in a qualitative sense our results are consistent with those obtained in 3x3 single-angle simulations, at least in terms of neutrino mass hierarchy dependence, performing multiangle calculations is found to reduce the adiabaticity of flavor evolution in the normal neutrino mass hierarchy, resulting in lower swap energies. Impact of neutrino decays on the supernova neutronization-burst flux

The discovery of nonzero neutrino masses invites one to consider decays of heavier neutrinos into lighter ones. We investigate the impact of two-body decays of neutrinos on the neutronization burst of a core-collapse supernova—the large burst of νe during the first 25 ms post-core-bounce. In the models we consider, the νe, produced mainly as a ν3(ν2) in the normal (inverted) mass ordering, are allowed to decay to ν1(ν3) or ν¯1(ν¯3) and an almost massless scalar. Flavor Evolution of the Neutronization Neutrino Burst From an O-Ne-Mg Core-Collapse Supernova

We present results of 3-neutrino flavor evolution simulations for the neutronization burst from an O-Ne-Mg core-collapse supernova. We find that nonlinear neutrino self-coupling engineers a single spectral feature of stepwise conversion in the inverted neutrino mass hierarchy case and in the normal mass hierarchy case, a superposition of two such features corresponding to the vacuum neutrino mass-squared differences associated with solar and atmospheric neutrino oscillations. These neutrino spectral features offer a unique potential probe of the conditions in the supernova environment and may allow us to distinguish between O-Ne-Mg and Fe core-collapse supernovae.

Core-collapse supernova neutrinos undergo a variety of phenomena when they travel from the high neutrino density region and large matter densities to the Earth. We perform analytical calculations of the supernova neutrino fluxes including collective effects due to the neutrino-neutrino interactions, the Mikheev-Smirnov-Wolfenstein (MSW) effect due to the neutrino interactions with the background matter and decoherence of the wave packets as they propagate in space. Neutrino halo effect on collective neutrino oscillation in iron core-collapse supernova model of a 9.6 M _⊙ star

We extend the multi-angle computational framework and investigate the time evolution of the neutrino halo on collective neutrino oscillation in the core collapse of an iron core progenitor. We find that in the case of the 9.6 M progenitor adopted in this work, there are windows of time when the effects of neutrino halo and collective neutrino oscillation are not simultaneously large. Inside the shock, the impact of the inward-scattered halo neutrino cannot in general be neglected compared to the outward-propagating neutrino flux.
