Chiral Three-Nucleon Interactions in Light Nuclei, Neutron-α Scattering, and Neutron Matter

Here we present quantum Monte Carlo calculations of light nuclei, neutron- scattering, and neutron matter using local two- and three-nucleon (3N) interactions derived from chiral e effective fi eld theory up to next-to-next-to-leading order (N²LO). The two undetermined 3N low-energy couplings are fi t to the ⁴He binding energy and, for the first time, to the spin-orbit splitting in the neutron- P-wave phase shifts. PERTURBATION THEORY IN NUCLEAR MATTER WITH REGULAR BUT VELOCITY DEPENDENT INTERACTIONS

Considering regular but velocity-dependent interactions, the direct and exchange terms of the second-order energy for nuclear matter are calculated. A study is made of whether such interactions, which can be fitted to the twobody data, lead to a quickly converging perturbation series. A rather large cortribution from singlet-even states to the direct and exchange term, at densities corresponding to k/sub F/ = 1.5 fm/sup -1/, indicates a very slow convergence even in the absence of a hard-core interaction. This result is partially caused by the short range of the velocitydependent term in the interaction. (auth)

We report a quantum Monte Carlo calculation of the equation of state of symmetric nuclear matter using local interactions derived from chiral effective field theory up to next-to-next-to-leading order fit to few-body observables only. The empirical saturation density and energy are well reproduced within statistical and systematic uncertainties. We have also derived the symmetry energy as a function of the density, finding good agreement with available experimentally derived constraints at saturation and twice saturation density.
