Phenomenology with a recoil-free jet axis: TMD fragmentation and the jet shape

We study the phenomenology of recoil-free jet axes using analytic calculations and Monte Carlo simulations. Our focus is on the average energy as function of the angle with the jet axis (the jet shape), and the energy and transverse momenta of hadrons in a jet (TMD fragmentation). We find that the dependence on the angle (or transverse momentum) is governed by a power law, in contrast to the double-logarithmic dependence for the standard jet axis. Attempt at phenomenological allowance for confinement in quark-gluon jets

A study is made of a system of modified equations for the evolution of hard jets, in which terms are introduced to take into account phenomenologically the confinement of quarks and gluons. The mean multiplicity of hard partons in a jet and the energy carried by them are calculated. It is shown that in the initial stage of development of a jet these characteristics agree with those calculated on the basis of the ordinary evolution equations with a definite cutoff in the parton energy.

Phenomenological study of the behavior of some silica formers in a high velocity jet fuel burner

Samples of four silica formers: single crystal SiC, sintered alpha-SiC, reaction sintered Si/sub 3/N/sub 4/ and polycrystalline MoSi/sub 2/, were subjected to a Mach 1 jet fuel burner for 1 hr, at a sample temperature of 1375 deg C (2500 deg F). Two phenomena were identified which may be deleterious to a gas turbine application of these materials. The glass layer formed on the MoSi/sub 2/ deformed appreciably under the aerodynamic load. A scale developed on the samples of the other materials which consisted of particular matter from the gas stream entrapped in a SiO/sub 2/ matrix.
