We report inelastic neutron scattering measurements of the resonant spin excitations in Ba{sub 1-x}K{sub x}Fe{sub 2}As{sub 2} over a broad range of electron band filling. The fall in the superconducting transition temperature with hole doping coincides with the magnetic excitations splitting into two incommensurate peaks because of the growing mismatch in the hole and electron Fermi surface volumes, as confirmed by a tight-binding model with s{sub {+-}}-symmetry pairing. The reduction in Fermi surface nesting is accompanied by a collapse of the resonance binding energy and its spectral weight, caused by the weakening of electron-electron correlations.

Neutron spin resonance as a probe of Fermi surface nesting and superconducting gap symmetry in ${Ba}_{0.67} K_{0.33} {({Fe}_{1 - x} {Co}_{x})}_{2} {As}_{2}$

Here, we use inelastic neutron scattering to study the energy and wave-vector dependence of the superconductivity-induced resonance in hole-doped Ba_0.67K_0.33(Fe_1–xCo_x)₂As₂ (x=0 and 0.08 with T_c ≈ 37 and 28 K, respectively). In previous work on electron-doped Ba(Fe_0.963Ni_0.037)₂As₂ (T_N = 26 K and T_c = 17 K), the resonance is found to peak sharply at the antiferromagnetic (AF) ordering wave vector Q_AF along the longitudinal direction, but disperses upwards away from Q_AF along the transverse direction. The relation between the spin-density wave (SDW) and superconducting order is a central topic in the current research on the FeAs-based high-T{sub c} superconductors. Conflicting results exist in the LaFeAs(O, F)-class of materials, for which whether the SDW and superconductivity are mutually exclusive or they can coexist has not been settled. Here we show that for the (Ba, K)Fe{sub 2}As{sub 2} system, the SDW and superconductivity can coexist in an extended range of compositions.
