Recently, an analysis of data from the Fermi Gamma Ray Space Telescope has revealed a flux of gamma rays concentrated around the inner 0.5 degrees of the Milky Way, with a sharply peaked spectrum at 2-4 GeV. Interpreted as the products of annihilating dark matter, this implies a dark matter particle with mass between 7.3 and 9.2 GeV annihilating primarily to charged leptons. This is comparable to the mass range required to fit signals reported by CoGeNT and DAMA/LIBRA. Upper bounds on signals due to WIMP self-annihilation: Comments on the case of the synchrotron radiation from the galactic center and the WMAP haze

Two recent papers reconsider the possibility that the WMAP haze is due to the synchrotron emission originated by neutralino self-annihilation; also upper bounds on the neutralino self-annihilation cross section are suggested. We show that for thermal weakly interacting massive particles (WIMPs) in a standard cosmological model, when the galactic WIMP density is duly rescaled for subdominant WIMPs, the upper bound applicable generically to any signal due to self-conjugate WIMPs is more stringent than the ones obtained from analysis of the WMAP haze. We perform a joint analysis of the cosmic microwave background (CMB) and Galactic emission from the WMAP 7 year temperature data. Using the Commander code, based on Gibbs sampling, we simultaneously derive the CMB and Galactic components on scales larger than 1 Degree-Sign with improved sensitivity over previous work. We conduct a detailed study of the low-frequency Galactic foreground, focusing on the 'microwave haze' emission around the Galactic center. We demonstrate improved performance in quantifying the diffuse Galactic emission when including Haslam 408 MHz data and when jointly modeling the spinning and thermal dust emission.
