The Absence of the Selfaveraging Property of the Entanglement Entropy of Disordered Free Fermions in One Dimension

We consider the macroscopic system of free lattice fermions in one dimension assuming that the one-body Hamiltonian of the system is the one dimensional discrete Schrödinger operator with independent identically distributed random potential. We show analytically and numerically that the variance of the entanglement entropy of the segment [−M,M] of the system is bounded away from zero as M→∞. This manifests the absence of the selfaveraging property of the entanglement entropy in our model, meaning that in the one-dimensional case the complete description of the entanglement entropy is provided by its whole probability distribution. We have studied quantum phase transition induced by a quench in different one-dimensional spin systems. Our analysis is based on the dynamical mechanism which envisages nonadiabaticity in the vicinity of the critical point. This causes spin fluctuation which leads to the random fluctuation of the Berry phase factor acquired by a spin state when the ground state of the system evolves in a closed path. The two-point correlation of this phase factor is associated with the probability of the formation of defects. Exact mapping from singular value spectrum of a class of fractal images to entanglement spectrum of one-dimensional free fermions

We examine singular value spectrum of a class of two-dimensional fractal images. We find that the spectra can be mapped onto entanglement spectra of free fermions in one dimension. This exact mapping tells us that the singular value decomposition is a way of detecting a holographic relation between classical and quantum systems.
