We calculate the cross section for diffractive hadron production in deep inelastic scattering off heavy nuclei in the framework of gluon saturation/color glass condensate. We analyze the kinematic region of the future Electron-Ion Collider. We argue that coherent and incoherent diffractive channels are very sensitive to the structure of the nuclear matter at low x. This expresses itself in a characteristic dependence of the cross sections on rapidity and transverse momentum of the produced hadron and on the nuclear weight. The effects of the final-state interaction in slow-proton production in semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering processes off nuclei, A(e,e{sup '}p)X, are investigated in detail using the spectator and target-fragmentation mechanisms. In the former mechanism, a hard interaction on a nucleon of a correlated pair leads, by recoil, to the emission of the partner nucleon, whereas in the latter mechanism a proton is produced when the diquark, which is formed right after the {gamma}*-quark interaction, captures a quark from the vacuum. Semi-inclusive deep-inelastic scattering off few-nucleon systems: Tagging the EMC effect and hadronization mechanisms with detection of slow recoiling nuclei

The semi-inclusive deep-inelastic scattering of electrons off {sup 2}H and {sup 3}He with detection of slow protons and deuterons, respectively, i.e., the processes {sup 2}H(e,e{sup '}p)X and {sup 3}He(e,e{sup '}d)X, are calculated within the spectator mechanism, taking into account the final state interaction of the nucleon debris with the detected protons and deuterons. Probing the Small- $x$ Gluon Tomography in Correlated Hard Diffractive Dijet Production in Deep Inelastic Scattering

The close connection between the quantum phase space Wigner distribution of small-x gluons and the color dipole scattering amplitude is investigated, and studying it experimentally is proposed in the hard diffractive dijet production at the planned electron-ion collider. The angular correlation between the nucleon recoiled momentum and the dijet transverse momentum probes the nontrivial correlation in the phase space Wigner distribution. This experimental study not only provides three-dimensional tomographic pictures of gluons inside high energy protons - it gives a unique and interesting signal for the small-x dynamics with QCD evolution effects.
