The spectroscopic and magnetic properties of dioxolene complexes of zinc, copper and nickel were studied by DFT calculations on model complexes of formulas[(NH)M(SQ)] (M=Zn, Ni; SQ=semiquinonato) and[(NH)Cu (SQ)]+. Standard approaches such as time-dependent DFT (TDDFT), the Slater transition state (STS), and broken symmetry (BS) were found to be unable to completely account for the physical properties of the systems, and complete active space-configuration interaction (CAS-CI) calculations based on the Kohn-Sham (KS) orbitals was applied. Generalized hydrodynamical equations are derived for a nonequilibrium plasma characterized by different temperatures and velocities for the electrons and ions. Their conductivities and viscosities appear to be inhibited by supplementary dissipation mechanisms caused by the inhomogeneities of the system. These modifications have profound implications for the properties of propagation and damping of ion-acoustic waves in the system.

The relation between magnetism and electronic transport properties in strongly correlated electron liquids, including high T{sub c} materials

Liquid metallic cesium, taken up the liquid-vapor coexistence curve towards the critical point, exhibits a crossover from Pauli spin paramagnetism near freezing to Curie-like behavior near criticality. This transition is discussed in terms of conventional Fermi liquid theory at low temperatures and heavy Fermion behavior on approaching the critical region. The maximum in the magnetic susceptibility permits an estimate of the discontinuity q in the momentum distribution at the corresponding density, and this has recently been checked independently using NMR data.
