Induced fermionic charge in background gauge theories in odd space-time dimensions

We have shown by using gauge- and parity-invariant regularization schemes such as dimensional and higher-covariant-derivative methods that the induced fermionic charge in a U(1) gauge theory in odd space-time dimensions is zero when the fermion mass is strictly equal to zero and recedes towards the boundary when one starts with a nonzero fermion mass and allows it to approach zero. In the latter case the induced charge is exactly the Chern-Simons index.

Calculation of the noninertial space-charge force and the coherent synchrotron radiation force for short electron bunches in circular motion using the retarded Green{close_quote}s function technique

The space-charge forces for short electron bunches in circular motion can be very different from the space-charge forces for short electron bunches undergoing straight-line motion. The two major effects introduced by the circular motion are an off-axis, so-called {open_quote}{open_quote}noninertial space-charge{close_quote}{close_quote} effect, in which there is essentially no net energy loss of the bunch, and a coherent synchrotron radiation effect, in which the bunch radiates coherent energy. The consequence of these effects is a potentially large growth in the electron bunch{close_quote}s transverse emittance. Electromagnetic self-force in the five dimensional Myers–Perry space–time

We calculate the effects of the electromagnetic self-force on a charged particle outside a five dimensional Myers–Perry space–time. Based on our earlier work (Mirzaiyan et al., 2018), we obtain the self-force using quaternions in Janis–Newman and Giampieri algorithms. In four dimensional rotating space–time the electromagnetic self-force is repulsive at any point, however, in five dimensional rotational space–time, we find a point r{sub 0} where the electromagnetic self-force vanishes. For rr{sub 0}) the electromagnetic self-force is attractive (repulsive).

Surface states and space charge layer dynamics on Si(111)2{times}1: A free electron laser-synchrotron radiation study

Combining the use of a UV storage ring free electron laser and of synchrotron radiation, a time resolved core level spectroscopy study has been performed on photoexcited Si(111)2{times}1 surfaces with subnanosecond resolution. This enabled us to measure band bending fluctuations, caused by surface carrier dynamics, during the first nanosecond after photoexcitation; differences in the Si2p core level lineshape, dependent on the pump-probe time delay, were also observed. The presence of defects was found to reduce the fluctuations and make the carrier recombination process faster. {copyright} {ital 1997 American Institute of Physics.}
