Conformal or walking? Monte Carlo renormalization group studies of SU(3) gauge models with fundamental fermions

Strongly coupled gauge systems with many fermions are important in many phenomenological models. I use the 2-lattice matching Monte Carlo renormalization group method to study the fixed point structure and critical indexes of SU(3) gauge models with 8 and 12 flavors of fundamental fermions. With an improved renormalization group block transformation I am able to connect the perturbative and confining regimes of the N{sub f}=8 flavor system, thus verifying its QCD-like nature. With N{sub f}=12 flavors the data favor the existence of an infrared fixed point and conformal phase, though the results are also consistent with very slow walking. Imore »« less

Reweighting in Monte Carlo and Monte Carlo renormalization-group studies

A method of reweighting Monte Carlo data to parameters other than the simulated ones is investigated. The method is also extended to include Monte Carlo renormalization-group simulations. Both single and multiple simulation reweighting is used. The models studied are the {ital d}=2 ferromagnetic {ital q}=3 Potts model and the {ital d}=2 antiferromagnetic Ising model. It is shown that the reweighting produces a systematic shift in the height and location of the specific-heat peak. Mesonic spectroscopy of minimal walking technicolor

We investigate the structure and the novel emerging features of the mesonic nonsinglet spectrum of the minimal walking technicolor theory. Precision measurements in the nonsinglet pseudoscalar and vector channels are compared to the expectations for an IR-conformal field theory and a QCD-like theory. Our results favor a scenario in which minimal walking technicolor is (almost) conformal in the infrared, while spontaneous chiral symmetry breaking seems less plausible.

We study the gauge sector of minimal walking technicolor, which is an SU(2) gauge theory with n{sub f}=2 flavors of Wilson fermions in the adjoint representation. Numerical simulations are performed on lattices N{sub t}xN{sub s}{sup 3}, with N{sub s} ranging from 8 to 16 and N{sub t}=2N{sub s}, at fixed {beta}=2.25, and varying the fermion bare mass m{sub 0}, so that our numerical results cover the full range of fermion masses from the quenched region to the chiral limit. Weakly interacting dark matter from the minimal walking technicolor

We study a weakly interacting dark matter particle motivated by minimal walking technicolor theories. Our WIMP is a mixture of a sterile state and a state with the charges of a standard model fourth family neutrino. We show that the model can give the right amount of dark matter over a range of the WIMP mass and mixing angle. We compute bounds on the model parameters from the current accelerator data including the oblique corrections to the precision electroweak parameters, as well as from cryogenic experiments, Super-Kamiokande and from the IceCube experiment.
