We present a minimal extension of the left-right symmetric model based on the gauge group SU(3)_c × SU(2)_L × SU(2)_R × U(1)_B–L × U(1)_X, in which a vector-like fermion pair (ζ_L and ζ_R) charged under the U(1)_B–L × U(1)X symmetry is introduced. Associated with the symmetry breaking of the gauge group SU(2)_R × U(1)_B–L × U(1)_X down to the Standard Model (SM) hypercharge U(1)_Y, Majorana masses for ζ_L,R are generated and the lightest mass eigenstate plays a role of the dark matter (DM) in our universe by its communication with the SM particles through a new neutral gauge boson “X”.more »« less

Low scale left-right symmetry and warm dark matter

We study the scenario which incorporates dark matter in the minimal left-right symmetric theory at the TeV scale. The only viable candidate is found to be the lightest right-handed neutrino with a mass of keV. In order to satisfy the dark matter relic abundance, the relic yield is diluted by late decays of the two heavier neutrinos. We point out that the QCD phase transition temperature coincidences with the typical freeze-out temperature governed by super-weak right-handed interactions. Dark matter constraints on the left-right symmetric model with Z{sub 2} symmetry

In the framework of the left-right symmetric model, we investigate an interesting scenario, in which the so-called vacuum expectation value (VEV)-seesaw problem can be naturally solved with Z{sub 2} symmetry. In such a scenario, we find a pair of stable weakly interacting massive particles (WIMPs), which may be the cold dark matter candidates. However, the WIMP-nucleon cross section is 3-5 orders of magnitude above the present upper bounds from the direct dark matter detection experiments for m{approx}10{sup 2}-10{sup 4} GeV. Searching for dark matter signals in the left-right symmetric gauge model with CP symmetry

We investigate the singlet scalar dark matter (DM) candidate in a left-right symmetric gauge model with two Higgs bidoublets in which the stabilization of the DM particle is induced by the discrete symmetries P and CP. According to the observed DM abundance, we predict the DM direct and indirect detection cross sections for the DM mass range from 10 to 500 GeV. We show that the DM indirect detection cross section is not sensitive to the light Higgs mixing and Yukawa couplings except for the resonance regions. If left-right gauge theory, SU(2){sub L}xSU(2){sub R}xU(1){sub B-L}xSU(3){sub C}(g{sub L}=g{sub R})({identical_to}G{sub 2213}), occurs as an intermediate symmetry in a grand unified theory then, apart from other advantages, it is possible to obtain the seesaw scale necessary to understand small neutrino masses with Majorana coupling of order unity. Barring threshold or nonrenormalizable gravitational effects at the GUT scale, or the assumed presence of additional light scalar particles of unprescribed origin, all other attempts to achieve manifest one-loop gauge coupling unification in supersymmetry SO(10) with such intermediate symmetry have not been successful so far.
