The observed slow running of the gauge coupling in SU(3) lattice gauge theory with two flavors of color sextet fermions naturally suggests it is a theory with one relevant coupling, the fermion mass, and that at zero mass correlation functions decay algebraically. I perform a finite-size scaling study on simulation data at two values of the bare gauge coupling with this assumption and observe a common exponent for the scaling of the correlation length with the fermion mass, y{sub m}{approx}1.5. An analysis of the scaling of valence Dirac eigenvalues at one of these bare couplings produces a similar number.

Static quark-antiquark potential: Scaling behavior and finite-size effects in SU(3) lattice gauge theory

We present results on the static {ital q{bar q}} potential from high-statistics simulations on 16{sup 4}, 24{sup 3}{times}32, and 32{sup 4} lattices, using the standard Wilson action at {beta}=6.0, 6.2, and 6.4 on the Connection Machine CM2. To decrease noise and increase accuracy, we applied a suitable local smoothing technique on the spatial parts of Wilson loop operators. As a result, we find a violation of asymptotic scaling of the string tension, as signaled by {radical}{sigma} /{Lambda}{sub {ital L}}=96.7(1.6)(2.6), 86.4(1.0)(1.9), 82.3(0.8)(1.7), for the three {beta} values, with statistical and systematic errors. 24 times 12 sup 3 vs 16 times 8 sup 3 lattices: Controlling finite-size effects in lattice SU(2) including fermions

We report on the hadron spectrum, chiral-symmetry parameters, and the interquark potential of two-color SU(2) including dynamical Kogut-Susskind fermions. By comparing the results on a 24{times}12{sup 3} with those on a 16{times}8{sup 3} lattice, we demonstrate that finite-size effects are small in a range of couplings where approximate scaling is observed.
