Measurement of branching ratio and B0s lifetime in the decay B0s → J/ψ f0(980) at CDF

Title: Measurement of branching ratio and B⁰_s lifetime in the decay B⁰_s → J/ψ f₀(980) at CDF

Abstract

We present a study of Bs0 decays to the CP-odd final state J/ψ f₀(980) with J/ψ → µ⁺µ^- and f₀(980) → π⁺π^-. Using pp̄ collision data with an integrated luminosity of 3.8 fb^-1 collected by the CDF II detector at the Tevatron we measure a Bs0 lifetime of τ(B⁰_s → J/ψ f₀(980)) = 1.70_-0.11^+0.12(stat) ± 0.03(syst) ps. This is the first measurement of the Bs0} lifetime in a decay to a CP eigenstate and corresponds in the standard model to the lifetime of the heavy Bs0 eigenstate. We also measure the product of branching fractions of B⁰_s → J/ψ f₀(980) and f₀(980) → π⁺π^- relative to the product of branching fractions of B⁰_s → J/ψφ and φ→K⁺K^- to be R_{f_0/ψ} = 0.257 ± 0.020(stat) ± 0.014(syst), which is the most precise determination of this quantity to date.

We report the observation of B{sub s}{sup 0}{yields}J/{psi}f{sub 0}(980) and evidence for B{sub s}{sup 0}{yields}J/{psi}f{sub 0}(1370), which are CP eigenstate decay modes. These results are obtained from 121.4 fb{sup -1} of data collected at the {Upsilon}(5S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB e{sup +}e{sup -} collider. We measure the branching fractions B(B{sub s}{sup 0}{yields}J/{psi}f{sub 0}(980);f{sub 0}(980){yields}{pi}{sup +}{pi}{sup -})=(1.16{sub -0.19}{sup +0.31}(stat){sub -0.17}{sup +0.15} (syst){sub -0.18}{sup +0.26}(N{sub B{sub s}{sup (*)}}{sub B{sub s}{sup (*)}}))x10{sup -4} with a significance of 8.4{sigma}, and B(B{sub s}{sup 0}{yields}J/{psi}f{sub 0}(1370);f{sub 0}(1370){yields}{pi}{sup +}{pi}{sup -})=(0.34{sub -0.14}{sup +0.11}(stat){sub -0.02}{sup +0.03} (syst){sub -0.05}{sup +0.08} (N{sub B{sub s}{sup (*)}}{sub B{sub s}{supmore »« less

The ratio Rf0/φ of the branching fractions of the B⁰ _s meson to the CP-odd eigenstate J/ψ f₀(980) and to J/ψ φ(1020) is measured, where J/ψ → µ ⁺µ ^-, f₀ → π ⁺π ^-, and φ → K⁺K^-. The analysis is based on a data sample of pp collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 7 TeV, collected by the CMS experiment, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.3 fb^-1 . Measurement of the B⁰_s lifetime in B⁰_s → K⁺ K^- decays

A method is presented to simultaneously separate the contributions to a sample of B⁰_s → h⁺h^'- decays, where h = π or K, and measure the B meson lifetimes in the sample while correcting for the bias in the lifetime distributions due to the hadronic trigger at the CDF experiment. Using 1 fb^-1 of data collected at CDF the B⁰ lifetime is measured as τ_B⁰ = 1.558_-0.047^+0.050_stat ± 0.028_syst ps, in agreement with the world average measurement.
