Figure 275990: OSTI.GOV Links Research

U.S. Department of Energy (DOE)-funded research results discoverable in OSTI.GOV now include links to related research objects, such as journal articles and datasets.  OSTI.GOV is using information from Scholix (link is external), a data and literature interoperability initiative of the Research Data Alliance (RDA) (link is external) and the World Data System (WDS) (link is external), and patent references from the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) (link is external) to increase the visibility, discovery, and retrieval of related knowledge.

To display related research objects, OSTI.GOV has added an "Other Related Research" tab to individual record pages.  This tab provides the linked research resources under "Related Works", as well as "Similar Records" that are available in OSTI.GOV.  The related works are organized and can be filtered by resource type (journal article, dataset, figure, patent, etc.).  The precise relationship type between the original record and the related work, such as "Is Supplement To" or "Documents", is also provided for additional context.  The related works are accessible to users via digital object identifiers (DOIs). Users can easily find journal articles, datasets, and other resource types associated with the original OSTI.GOV record, thereby facilitating the validation of research results, supporting research reproducibility, and increasing the pace of scientific discovery.

Reference information from USPTO and Scholix has also been added to OSTI.GOV and is available on individual record pages on the "References" tab.  References are organized and can be filtered by resource types and are accessible via DOIs or URLs.  Users can search within references for words or phrases and then sort by title or date.  These new OSTI.GOV features help demonstrate the many interrelationships that exist between research objects and contribute to a modern environment of linked research results and more open science.

OSTI.GOV is the primary search tool for DOE science, technology, and engineering research and development results.  OSTI.GOV provides access to DOE-funded R&D results through easy-to-use search capabilities and relevant resources.  For the DOE community, additional reference and citation information provided through an agreement with Web of Science is available to help researchers evaluate article impact and find related research.  For questions or comments, contact comments@osti.gov.
