Description/Abstract:
The attached graph shows the JTN-11 thrust variation with exhaust nozzle area at several subsonic flight conditions for the Convair application. The throat area used in the present engine performance estimation is held constant at 5.33 square feet for nuclear heat operation. The thrust penalty for utilizing a fixed position nozzle is 1.7 percent at Mach 0.9 at 36,090 feet, and at Mach 0.6 at 25,000 feet. The thrust penalty is negligible at the other flight conditions.
