ADDITION OF 4 SEC-BUTYL-2(ALPHA-METHYLBENZYL) PHENOL REVERSES THE ORDER OF EXTRACTABILITY. PHYSICAL CHEMICAL STUDIES ON THE MOLECULAR SPECIES INVOLVED IN THIS EXTRACTION ARE DISCUSSED; REASONS FOR THE EXTRACTIABILITY ORDER ARE POSTULATED; AND EXPERIMENTS ARE DESCRIBED CONCERNING THE EFFECT OF MODIFICATION OF THE PHENOL MOLECULE.
