CHEMICAL MILLING OF COUNTERBORE RECESSES IN THE U WALL OF ZIRCALOY-2 CLAD U TUBES CAN BE SUCCESSFULLY ACHIEVED AT ETCH RATES OF 3.5-4.0 MILS/ MIN IN ETCHANTS CONSISTING OF MODIFIED HCl. BOTH ENDS OF THE TUBE SPECIMENS WERE ETCHED SIMULTANEOUSLY TO DESIGN DEPTH WITH THE REQUIRED TOLERANCE, AND RESULTS WERE REPRODUCIBLE.
