Description/Abstract:
PU VALUES OF $10 TO $12/GRAM, FISSILE ARE LIKELY FIRM FLOOR VALUES. SINCE THESE VALUES ARE BASED ON DIRECT REPLACEMENT OF THE SLIGHTLY ENRICHED U02 OXIDE FUEL CORE WITH PU AND U OXIDES, THIS SYSTEM CAN BE APPLIED AS DEMONSTRATED IN THE PRTR AND IN THE EBWR. WHILE DEVELOPMENT OF REFINEMENTS SUCH AS REDUCED DENSITY PU-U FUELS, AND OF PU-240 AS A CONTROL DEVICE WILL TEND TO INCREASE, OR AT LEAST LEVEL OUT, PU VALUES; THESE DEVELOPMENTS ARE NOT NECESSARY TO PROVIDE A SOUND BEGINNING TO PU USE IN THERMAL REACTORS.
