REPORTS THE RESULTS OF A SERIES OF TEST WHICH WERE MADE ON SEVERAL ORIFICES IN SERIES. EXPERIMENTAL DATA WERE OBTAINED WHICH INDICATED THE VALIDITY OF ORIFICE CONTRACTION COEFFLUENTS FOR WATER WHICH HAD PREVIOUSLY BEEN OBTAINED FOR TWO-DIMESIONAL FLUID FLOW WITH AIR. FROM ADDITIONAL EXPERIMENTAL DATA, AN EQUATION WAS DERIVED WHICH IN DIMENSIONLESS TERMS DESCRIBES THE PRESSURE RECOVERY PATTERN OF A JET DOWNSTREAM IF AN ORIFICE WHEN CONTAINED ON A PIPE.
