DESCRIBES HYDROSTATIC EQUIPMENT AND TECHNIQUES FOR FABRICATING UO2 RODS, RINGS, TUBES, AND SPHERES. SHAPES PRESSED FROM POWDER AS THE STARTING MATERIAL HAS A MINIMUM OF DENSITY GRADIENTS, NO PRESSURE CRACKS, MECHANICAL STABILITY, LOW FIRING SHRINKAGE, AND HIGH GREEN AND SINTERED DENSITIES. COMPACTION RATIOS ON PRESSING WERE 1.8-1. HYDROSTATIC RE-PRESSING OF PERFOMED SHAPES DECREASED FIRING SHRINKAGE 1-4%, INCREASED GREEN DENSITIES 7-10% AND SINTERED DENSITIES 2-6%. DISCUSSES HYDOSTATIC PRESSING TECHNIQUES FOR CLADDING UO2 SPHERES AND FOR FABRICATION PB RODS AND TUBES FOR FUEL ELEMENT MOCK-UPS.
