REDUCTION OF COOLING WATER PH TO VALUES LESS THAN 7.0 SHOULD RESULT IN REDUCED UNIFORM CORROSION OF AL, WITH RESULTING SAVINGS IN MATERIAL COSTS AND REACTOR OUTAGE TIME. STEEL CORROSION WILL BE GREATER IN THE LOW PH WATER, AND USEFUL LIFE OF PRESENT EFFLUENT PIPING SYSTEMS WILL BE SHORTENED. GREATER CHEMICAL COSTS AND PERHAPS, ADDITIONAL EQUIPMENT COSTS, WILL BE INCURRED IN REDUCING PROCESS WATER PH. ADDITIONAL DOSAGES OF CORROSION INHIBITORS AND FILM CONTROL CHEMICALS MAY ALSO BE REQUIRED.
