Description/Abstract:
THE DISTRIBUTION OF TRACE FLUORIDE BETWEEN LIQUID AND VAPOR WAS DETERMINED AS A FUNCTION OF HNO3 CONCENTRATION, BOTH AT ATMOSPHERIC PRESSURE AND AT A REDUCED PRESSURE OF 100 MM HG ABSOLUTE, EMPLOYING AN OTHMER-TYPE EQUILIBRIUM STILL CONSTRUCTED OF STAINLESS STEE. ALL MEASUREMENTS WERE MADE AT THE BOILING POINT OF THE SOLUTIONS EMPLOYED. THE LOGARITHM OF THE FLUORIDE DISTRIBUTION COEFFICIENT WAS FOUND TO BE ROUGHLY LINEAR IN THE CONCENTRATION OF HNO3 IN THE LIQUID PHASE AND INCREASED WITH THE LATTER. THE BEHAVIOR AT 100 MM HG WAS ALMOST IDENTICAL TO THAT AT ATMOSPHERIC PRESSURE.
