PRELIMINARY DESIGN FOR A DEVICE THAT WILL OBTAIN CAN WALL THICKNESS DATA ACCURATELY, QUICKLY AND AT NOMINAL COST. THE SLUG CAN (AL) IS SOFTER THAN THE SLUG (U). THEN A STYLUS CR PENETRATOR IS FORCED INTO THE SIDE OF THE CANNED SLUG THERE IS AN INCREASE IN THE FORCE REQUIRED FOR THIS OPERATION. IF THE FORCE REQUIRED IS PLOTTED VERSUS THE PENETRATION DEPTH, THE CAN WALL THICKNESS APPEARS AS THE DISTANCE FROM TEH SURFACE OF THE SLUG TO THE POINT WHERE PLOT SLOPE CHANGES.
